Ashland University's softball team will trade the warmth and sun of Florida for the chill, clouds and winds of Ohio – but the Eagles will do so bringing a winning streak back with them.

The Eagles improved to 11-5 on Saturday (March 9), and upped their winning streak to four games, thanks to a 3-1 win over Urbana, and a 4-3 eight-inning victory over Edinboro.

In the win over the Blue Knights, the game was scoreless through the first five innings. After the two teams traded runs in the sixth inning, Ashland scored twice in the top of the seventh for the victory – two unearned runs on back-to-back two-out Urbana errors.

Senior pitcher Hannah Stroe (5-3) allowed six hits, a run and two walks and struck out three in the complete-game victory, while junior shortstop Bree Gill was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Ashland finished its annual Florida trip with a see-saw game against the Fighting Scots – a contest which ended in the bottom of the eighth when an Edinboro error allowed sophomore pinch-runner Alli Hylton to score.

Junior designated player Dayna Denner was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while sophomore left fielder Emma Lawson and senior center fielder Erika Farst each had two of AU's 10 hits.

Sophomore pitcher Laney Jones (4-2) earned the extra-inning victory in the pitcher's circle, scattering eight hits, three runs (one earned) and a walk and striking out nine.

The Eagles will return home, then go back on the road on Thursday (March 14) for a doubleheader at Wheeling Jesuit at 3 p.m. A scheduled 10-game homestand starts on March 16 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader vs. Ohio Dominican.
