Softball Loses Both Ends Of Twinbill In Detroit

Kicking off a 10-game road trip over an eight-day stretch on Saturday (April 13) afternoon, Ashland University's softball team lost both games of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wayne State, 7-0 and 2-0.

Saturday's opener saw the Warriors (26-13 overall, 9-9 GLIAC) score thrice each in the bottom of the first and fourth innings, and once in the bottom of the second.

Senior first baseman Kylie Asmus and sophomore shortstop Abigail Butler each went 2-for-3, as AU (24-16, 10-10) finished with seven hits. Sophomore pitcher Laney Jones (11-7) yielded eight hits, seven runs (six earned) and two walks and struck out three in six innings.

Wayne State scored single runs in the bottom of the first and fifth innings for the final margin of victory in Game 2. Ashland had seven hits again, with sophomore left fielder Emma Lawson going 3-for-3, and junior second baseman Camille Pollutro finishing 2-for-4.

Senior pitcher Hannah Stroe (11-9) allowed 10 hits, two runs and no walks and whiffed two in six frames.

Ashland's Sunday (April 14) doubleheader at Walsh (9-33) has been postponed. The Eagles' next scheduled twinbill is Tuesday (April 16) at 2:30 p.m. at Ferris State (16-24, 7-13).
