Eagles Open Season With Split at Findlay

            The Ashland University men's and women's swimming teams opened the 2011-12 season on Friday (Oct. 14) at Findlay with a split. The Ashland men prevailed, 160-61 and the Ashland women lost, 116-105.

            Mauricio Uranga (Chihuahua, Mexico/La Salle Chihuahua) finished first in the 200 free (1:47.08) and 100 backstroke (52.65). The junior was also on the 200 medley that took top honors in 1:35.93.  Sophomore Alex Sheil (Sydney, Australia/Trinity) won the 100 butterfly in 52.12 and was on the 200 free relay that finished first in 1:28.73. Junior Tyler Remmel won gold in the 100 free (48.59) and was also on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.

            Senior Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) won the 100 freestyle (54.79) and was on the 200 free medley that finished first in 1:42.13.  She was also on the first place 200 medley relay (1:51.11).  Sophomore Sara Reidler (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) led the field in the 100 backstroke (1:01.39) and was on the victorious 200 free and 200 medley relays.

            The Eagles open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday (Oct. 15). The AU women will entertain Hillsdale while the Ashland men will oppose Urbana at Messerly Natatorium.
