AU Men Finish Weekend Sweep in the Pool

ASHLAND, Ohio – The AU men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their home seasons on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon at the Messerly Natatorium.

The AU men came away with a 155-66 win over Urbana and the AU women fell to Hillsdale, 124-106.

On the men's side, junior Tyler Remmel (Hubertus, Wis./Hertford Union) won two individual events and was on the 200 medley relay team that beat the Blue Knights. He was the winner in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.96 and won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.43 seconds.

Junior Mauricio Uranga (Chihuahua, Mexico/La Salle Chihuahua) was also on the 200 medley relay squad and won two individual events. He was first in the 200 individual medley, clocking in at 1:58.75. He finished the 100 backstroke in 52.24 seconds for a win in that event.

Sophomore Josiah Galat (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) won both men's diving events at the 1-meter and 3-meter heights.

For the women, junior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) was a member of the winning 400 medley relay team and also won two individual events. She was first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.14 seconds. Widmann also won the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 54.00 seconds.

Junior Nicole Buhr (Milford, Ohio) won both the diving events for the AU women.

Also, senior Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) was a member of the winning 400 medley relay team and also won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.76.

The Eagles are off for two weeks before hosting Grand Valley State on Oct. 29 in a dual meet with the Lakers. The meet is slated to start at 2 p.m.
