The Ashland University swimming team gained its first victory of the season Saturday (Nov. 5) with a 159-117 decision over Indianapolis at the Messerly Natatorium. The Indy men edged the Eagles, 149-139.
For the women, the 200 medley relay came home in 1:48.26. That is the top time in the country. That quartet included sophomore Sara Reidler (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln), sophomore Brittany Finlay (Marysville, Ohio), senior Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) and junior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage).
On Saturday, Reidler won the 100 backstroke (1:00.81) and 200 backstroke (2:13.06). Anderson was the gold medalist in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.44) and 100 butterfly (58.57) and Widmann was first in the 50 freestyle (24.17) and 100 freestyle (53.43).
The men received a pair of first place finishes from junior Tyler Remmel (Hubertus, Wis./Hertford Union). He led the pack in the 100 breaststroke (58.24) and 100 butterfly (50.32). Sophomore Alex Sheil (Sydney, Australia/Trinity) was first in the 200 freestyle (1:43.53) and 500 freestyle (4:44.06).
Ashland returns to the pool on Friday, Nov. 18 at Wayne State.
