Anderson Named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week

ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University senior swimmer Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) was named the GLIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (Dec. 5) afternoon.

The Eagles competed in the Eastern Michigan Invitational against top competition at the Division I and Division II levels last weekend in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Anderson set school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. She won the 100 breaststroke at the EMU Invitational with a time of 1:03.08, which is the fastest time in the nation. She also touched at 2:18.64 in the 200 breaststroke to set an AU record. Anderson was also third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.12 and was fourth in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 56.12 seconds.

Anderson was a member of three relay teams that finished in the top three at the invitational. She led off the 400 freestyle relay with a split of 51.74 seconds. Anderson was also a part of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams for the Eagles.

AU finished fourth in the six-team field at the EMU Invitational, which also featured Oakland, Eastern Michigan, Wayne State, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and Findlay.

The Eagles are idle through the remainder of 2011 and return to the pool at Wright State on Jan. 7. AU hosts its Senior Night against Lake Erie and Malone on Jan. 13.
