Eagles Collect Three Gold Medals at Oakland

The Ashland University swimming and diving teams went to Oakland (Mich.) on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20-21).  While the depth of the pool was the same as always, the Eagles found themselves matched against two of the deepest, most talented swimming programs in the country in Oakland and Kenyon.  Division I Cincinnati was also competing.

Both AU teams finished fourth.  The Eagles did bring home three gold medals.  Junior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) was first in the 50 freestyle (24.07) and junior Cheyne Fisher (Durban, South Africa/Westville) was first in the 200 breaststroke (2:03.82).  The women's 200 free relay placed first in 1:36.57. That quartet included Widmann, senior Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio), junior Rachael Ausdenmoore (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and senior Mary Cargill (Wadsworth, Ohio).

Fisher's weekend also included a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke (58.29) and Widmann was third in the 100 backstroke (58.81).
