Swimmers Claim Two Gold Medals on Friday

 

            The Ashland University swimming and diving team collected two gold medals Friday (Feb. 10) at the GLIAC Championships in Jenison, Mich.

            Junior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the field  in the 100 backstroke (55.66).  Junior Cheyne Fisher (Durban, South Africa/Westville) got to the top of the awards stand in the men's 100 breaststroke (54.82).  Both Widmann and Fisher recorded "B" cuts for nationals.

            Senior Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) was third in the 100 butterfly (56.54) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.67).  Sophomore Sara Reidler (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) was third in the 100 backstroke (56.85).

            Junior Tyler Remmel (Hubertus, Wis./Hertford Union) was third in the 100 butterfly (49.18).  Sophomore Alex Sheil (Sydney, Australia/Trinity) won the bronze medal in the 200 free (1:39.40).

            After three days of competition, the AU men are third out of six teams and the Ashland women are fourth in an eight-team field.  The conference meet concludes on Saturday night.
