AU Men Fourth, Women Fifth At Conference Meet

            The Ashland University men's swimming team placed fourth at the 2012 GLIAC Championships and the AU women ended the four-day meet in fifth place. This year's conference championships, held in Jenison, Mich., concluded on Saturday night (Feb. 11).

            Wayne State won the team title for both the men and women and Grand Valley State was second for both the men and the women.  Nine women's teams were in the field and the men's field listed seven teams.

            Junior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) was second in the 100 freestyle on Saturday. Her time of 51.14 was a "B" cut for nationals.

            Junior Tyler Remmel (Hubertus, Wis./Hertford Union) was third in the 200 breaststroke. He completed the race in 2:01.63, which is also a "B" cut.
