ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University swimming and diving teams wrapped up their final day of competition at the NCAA Division II Championships in Mansfield, Texas on Saturday (March 17) night.
The AU women finished the meet ranked seventh, while the men placed 16th overall.
On Saturday, the women's 400 freestyle relay clocked in fourth place with a time of 3:24.11, earning 30 points for the Eagles. The team consisted of seniors Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) and Mary Cargill (Wadsworth, Ohio) and juniors Rachel Ausdenmoore (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage).
Widmann was seventh in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.92 seconds, earning an All-America honors.
On the men's side, junior Cheyne Fisher (Durban, South Africa/Westville) was fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.18. Junior Tyler Remmel (Hubertus, Wis./Hertford Union) was 11th in that event with a time of 2:00.50.
Junior Mauricio Uranga (Chihuahua, Mexico/La Salle Chihuahua) finished 15th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.06.
The men's 400 freestyle relay clocked in at 3:02.99 and finished 14th in the final event of the meet. That team was made up of sophomore Alex Sheil (Sydney, Australia/Trinity), sophomore Jacob Miller (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson), Uranga and Remmel.
On the women's side, Wayne State was the national champion with 497 points, just one ahead of runner-up Drury (496). UC-San Diego was third on the women's side with 451.5 points.
Drury was the men's national champion with 473 points. UC-San Diego (400) was second and Florida Southern (316.5) held off Incarnate Word (315.5) for third place.
