The Ashland University swimming teams have one day left to put together a surge at the 2013 GLIAC Championships in Canton, Ohio. After the third day of action was completed on Friday, the AU men were sitting in fourth place and the Ashland women were sixth.
Wayne State leads the team competition for both the men and the women. The WSU men have 570 points and Grand Valley State is second with 498 points. AU has 395.5 points.
The Warrior women enter Saturday with 560.5 points. The Eagles will start the final day of competition with 235.5 points.
On Thursday, senior Tyler Remmel (Hubertus, Wis./Hertford Union) was second in the 100 butterfly (49.50). Remmel joined forces with senior Cheyne Fisher (Durban, South Africa/Westville), junior Braxton Wright (Lexington, Ohio) and freshman Sergio Sanchis Peris (Valencia, Spain) on the 400 medley relay that was third (3:18.49).
Fisher was also third in the 100 breaststroke (55.15) and Peris set a school record in the prelims of the 100 backstroke (49.55). In the finals, Peris was fifth (50.17).
Senior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) was third in the 100 backstroke (56.65).
