Widmann Finishes Second In 50 Freestyle

Senior Julie Widmann (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) placed second on Wednesday (Mar. 6) in the 50 freestyle at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

Widmann finished in 22.79. Top seed Tamiris Nascimento of Incarnate Word won in 22.76.

Widmann has won three national championships in her career. A year ago, she won the national titlle in the 100 backstroke. She's also been part of two championship relays.

The women's 200 medley relay was fifth in 1:43.36. The quartet consisted of Widmann, freshman Beth Long (Upper Arlington, Ohio), senior Rachael Ausdenmoore (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and freshman Kaylyn Murphy (West Carrollton, Ohio).

Wednesday was the opening day of the championships. The AU women are ninth with 45 points. Drury leads the field with 104 points and Wingate is second with 74 points. Incarnate Word is third with 65 points.
