AU Swimming Adds 13 To Roster

          Over the years, the Ashland University swimming and diving program has consistently been one of the best in the country as the Eagles have found success on both the team and individual levels.  Head coach Paul Graham looks to continue those winning ways, signing 13 newcomers for the 2014-2015 season.

            This year's recruiting class has five members from Ohio, four from Pennsylvania, two from Michigan and one from both Missouri and Texas.  Information and event times on all 13 recruits can be found below.

            Jared Adams (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) – Adams has been a member of the Hudson Explorers Aquatic team where he participates in the 100 and 200 backstroke

and the 100 butterfly. He was a district qualifier.

            Jillian Belous (Owosso, Mich./Corunna) – Belous swims the 50 and 100 freestyle and has competed for the Owosso Sea Turtles in her prep career.  When asked why she wanted to become an Eagle, Belous said it, "Felt like home from the moment she stepped on campus."

            Emily Fleming (Shelby Township, Mich./Henry Ford II) – Fleming specializes in long distance events, competing in the 500, 1,000, and 1,650 freestyle and the 400 IM.  Fleming competed on the Great Lakes Tritons in her high school career.

            Elizabeth Gehlmann (Brunswick, Ohio) – Gehlmann is a member of the Hudson Explorers Aquatic Team and swims for Brunswick High School. She competes in the 50 and 100 freestyle.  She was an all-conference performer in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Gehlmann has been cited as the conference's most valuable swimmer and the Medina County swimmer of the year. She holds school records in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

            Chris Georgiadis (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) – Georgiadis comes to Ashland after swimming with Pine Richland Aquatics, swimming in the 200 and 400 IM, 100 and 200 butterfly, and the 500 freestyle.  On the high school level, Georgiadis was a 2013 district champ in the 200 IM and was third at the state meet in that event. In 2012, he was the district runner-up in the 200 IM and placed fourth at the state meet.

            Georgiadis has qualified for USA Swimming Super Sectional meets. He also competed in cross country and reached the state championships in 2011 and 2012.

            Andrew Martin  (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) – Martin swims for Pickerington North and the Ohio State Swim Club, competing in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 50 and 100 freestyle and the 200 IM.  He's a two-time All-Ohio state finalist and a three-year letterman. He's also a four-time Ohio Capital Conference champion.

            Madison Olander (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) – Olander has competed in the 200, 500, and 1,650 freestyle at the Moon Aqua Club.  Olander chose Ashland because of the great academics and welcoming members of the team.

            Courtney Patterson (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) – Patterson has excelled in the pool in both the freestyle and backstroke.  During her high school career, she was a member of the Hempfield Aqua Club. Patterson has qualified for the WPIAL championships twice.

            Kate Randall (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) – The Loveland High School product has competed for the Cincinnati Aquatic Club, specializing in freestyle events.  She holds the school record in the 200 freestyle and is the Eastern Cincinnati Conference record holder in the 200 and 500 freestyle. She has lettered four times.

            Grace Reichard (Nevada, Mo./Nevada) – Reichard competed with Nevada High School and with the Jasper County Killer Whales. Her events were the freestyle, breaststroke and IM events. She has been an all-state and all-district athlete and is a four-time letterwinner.

            Zoe Scarpone (Tiltonsville, Ohio/The Linsly School) – Scarpone is another versatile swimmer who competes in the IM, butterfly, and freestyle events.  In high school, she was a member of Cardinal Aquatics. She has earned nine letters competing in swimming, soccer and track and field.

            Michaela Teague (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) – Teague swims with the Longhorn Aquatic Club and participates in the freestyle, butterfly and IM.  She is excited about Ashland not only for the swimming program and its coaching staff, but also for the university's Ashbrook Scholar Program.

John Paul Zimcosky (Smock, Pa./Geibel Catholic) – Zimcosky is a freestyle specialist who swam at the Regional Family YMCA of Laurel Highlands.
