AU Swimmers Return To Action With Sweep Of Storm

If the water in the AU pool had turned a little red on Friday night, AU swimming coach Paul Graham wouldn't have been surprised or alarm.

The Eagles were working off some rust, so a reddish tint wouldn't haven't shocked the veteran AU coach.

The Eagles swept Lake Erie on Friday. This was Ashland's first competition since Nov. 24 at Cleveland State. The AU men downed the Storm, 133-62 and the Ashland women prevailed, 118-75.

For the men, Alex Sheil won the 200 free (1:46.31) and 500 free (4:54.34). He was on the 400 medley relay that came home first in 3:26.75.

Philipp Sikatzki was on that same relay and picked up individual wins in the 200 IM (1:58.28) and 200 backstroke (1:54.17).

Gabriela Verdugo-Arzaluz won the 200 IM (2:12.74) and 100 free (53.26) and was on the 400 free relay that finished first in 3:39.29. Sara Reidler was on a pair of victorious relays - the 400 free and the 400 medley (4:06.50).

The Eagles will welcome Urbana to town on Saturday (Jan. 11, 1:30 p.m.).
