Sikatzki Named National Swimmer Of The Week

Ashland University freshman Philipp Sikatzki is this week's CollegeSwimming.com NCAA Division II male swimmer of the week. Sikatzki is also the GLIAC men's swimmer of the week.

AU sophomore Hannah Mattar is the GLIAC women's swimmer of the week.

Sikatzki has been a dominant force all season. Last weekend at Kenyon, he produced an eye-opening performance, finishing first three times and second four times.

Sikatzki set a meet record in the 200 IM (1:49.87).  He won that race and also finished first in the 100 backstroke. In that event, Sikatzki set school, meet and pool marks with a time of 48:45. He hit the NCAA A-cut standard in the 100 butterfly with a time of 48:00. The freshman led the field in that event.

Sikatzki was part of the 200 medley relay that was second. He broke the school record in the 50 backstroke on his leg of that race. The relay finished in 1:31.55. Sikatzki helped the 400 medley relay (3:21.00) and 800 free relay (6:49.88) place second. Finally, he was second in the 200 backstroke (1:49.59).

A native of Leipzig, Germany, Sikatzki is listed among the GLIAC's top three times in six events. He owns the best time in the conference in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. He's second in the 50 free and 100 free and third in the 200 backstroke and 200 IM.

Mattar was on the 400 medley relay that was first at Kenyon in 3:52.43. She was the runner-up in the 200 IM (2:06.46) and 200 breaststroke (2:17.29). She set a school record in the 200 breaststroke.

Mattar also set a school standard in the 400 IM (4:25.66). The sophomore was part of the 200 medley relay that was third (1:47.33).

AU fans have one more chance to watch Sikatzki, Mattar and the rest of the Eagles in their home pool. On Thursday (Jan. 23, 6 p.m.), AU entertains Malone.
