AU Swimmers Sweep Malone

The AU swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of wins on Thursday (Jan. 23). The Eagle men had to go to the wire, but held on to beat Malone, 146-138. The AU women prevailed against the Pioneers, 165-65. The meet was held at Ashland.

Freshman Philipp Sikatzki, this week's NCAA Division II men's national swimmer of the week, won three races. Sikatzki led the pack in the 50 freestyle (21.15), 100 freestyle (47.99) and 100 butterfly (48.81).

Sergio Sanchis Peris finished first in the 100 backstroke (51.37) and 200 backstroke (1:54.50).

Alex Sheil won the 200 freestyle (1:42.61) and was the runner-up in the 200 IM (1:56.77) and 500 freestyle (4:43.92).

Kaylyn Murphy won the 100 backstroke (59.85) and 100 freestyle (53.01).

Gabriela Verdugo-Arzaluz won the 500 freestyle (24.64) and 100 butterfly (58.85) and was on the 800 free relay that won in 8:07.97.

Megan Schultz won the 200 freestyle (1:59.47) and was on two winning relays - the 800 free relay and 200 medley (1:52.61).

The Ashland women will compete at Hillsdale on Friday (Jan. 24).
