Ashland University freshman Philipp Sikatzki won a GLIAC championship in the 50 freestyle on Wednesday night (Feb. 12) at the GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships in Geneva, Ohio.

Sikatzki's winning time was 20.21. That's a school record. The freshman is one of the top all-around swimmers in the conference and entered the meet with the top time (20.54) in the GLIAC in the event.

Sikatzki also helped the 200 medley relay finish third in school record time of 1:28.92. He was joined on that quartet by Sergio Sanchis Peris, Greg Walters and Jacob Miller.

AU's women's 200 medley also was third. That group came home in 1:44.04, which is another school record. The members of the relay were Sara Reidler, Brittany Finlay, Laurin McClure and Kaylyn Murphy.

Also on Wednesday, Hannah Mattar was fourth in the 200 IM (2:04.69) and Murphy was fourth in the 50 freestyle (23.55). Alex Sheil was fourth in the 200 IM (1:49.10). Matter and Sheil set school records.
