Swimmers Off To Strong Start At Nationals

The Ashland University swimming and diving teams put in a good first day on Wednesday (Mar. 12) at the 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Geneva, Ohio. This year's four-day championship event is being held at the SPIRE Institute.

The men's 200 medley relay of Sergio Sanchis Peris, Greg Walters, Philipp Sikatzki and Hueston Holder earned an All-America citation by finishing seventh in 1:29.05.

Hannah Mattar was eighth in the 200 IM. Her time was 2:06.39 and that will get her an All-America award.

In the women's 50 freestyle, Kaylyn Murphy secured All-America laurels by placing 15th in 23.71.

Peris was 16th in the men's 50 freestyle. His time was 20.70 and that finish gets him an All-America award.

The AU men are in 11th place and the Ashland women are in 19th place. Head coach Paul Graham has 10 swimmers competing this week.
