Warriors Hold Off Eagle Swimmers, Divers

The Ashland University men's and women's swim and dive teams both saw many event winners on Saturday (Nov. 15), but their collective efforts fell short to the Wayne State Warriors at Messerly Natatorium.

The Warrior men defeated the Eagles, 132-103, and Warrior women won, 128-97.

Many Eagle men displayed strong performances against the Warriors. Nick Noe captured the 200-yard freestyle title in a time of 1:47.75. Christopher Georgiadis won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:58.54. AU's Ryan Deemer just edged Wayne State's Bob Stephenson-Ganner for the win in the 500-yard freestyle. Deemer touched in 4:50.63, beating Stephenson-Ganner by .38 seconds.
Eagles Jesse Ireland and Greg Walters turned in the top two times in the 200-yard breaststroke. Also, the men's 400-yard freestyle relay consisting of Noe, Zak Duncan, Logan Rex and John Scalli finished first with a time of 3:16.30.

The Eagle women also claimed numerous titles on Saturday. Hannah Mattar took first in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke. Katherine Randall claimed victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.45.
Both of the women's relays took their respective top spots. The 400-yard medley relay of Megan Schultz, Grace Reichard, Zoe Scarpone and Kaylyn Murphy held off Wayne State by six tenths of second. The relay finished with a combined time of 4:04.17. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Lizzy Gehlmann, Randall, Paige Martin and Madison McQuiston won with a time of 3:50.04 seconds.

The Eagles will next return to the pool on Friday, Nov. 21, in the Viking Invite at Cleveland State University. The invite is a three-day event.
