Eagles Earn Sweep Over The Blue Knights

The Ashland University swim and dive teams took to the pool for the second consecutive day and achieved equally successful results, claiming victory over both the men and women's teams from Urbana University.

The Eagle men won by a 120-58 margin, and the AU women won by a 131-69 score.

Saturday's (Jan. 10) meet also was senior day, and paid special note to the lone senior on the Eagles swim team, Lukas Jachno. Jachno, a native of the Czech Republic, swam in his final home meet with his parents in attendance. Jachno swam unattached in the meet and competed in the 100-yard butterfly.

Freshman Ryan Deemer took gold in two events on the day. He clocked in 36 seconds better than his next competitor in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:58.15. He also won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:54.72.

The only other Eagle to win multiple events was junior Hannah Mattar. She took first in the 400-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly.

The Eagles will next swim on Friday, January 23rd against the Malone Pioneers. The meet will take place in Canton, Ohio, at 5 p.m.
