For some of the Ashland University swimmers and divers, returning to the C.T. Branin Natatorium must bring back some found memories.
The facility located in Canton, Ohio, is not only home to the Malone swimming and diving program, but it also hosts the Ohio High School Athletic Association state swimming and diving championships each year.
On Friday night (Jan. 23), the Eagles took to the water and came away victorious on the women's side by a 163-92 margin. However, the men fell short, 179.5-91.5, to the Pioneers.
Freshman Michaela Teague won the women's 200-yard freestyle over freshman teammate Katherine Randall, as they finished 1-2 in the event. Teague touched in 2:04.94, and Randall hit in 2:07.65. Teague also won the 500-yard freestyle this evening in 5:25.82.
Junior Hannah Mattar won both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Her breaststroke time was 2:27.67, and she completed the IM in 2:12.01.
Freshman Grace Reichard turned in two impressive performances in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. She won the 50-yard race in 24.71 seconds, and the 100-yard in 52.93 seconds.
Eagle freshman Christopher Georgiadis took home top honors in the 200-yard butterfly, as he touched in 1:55.54. That was nearly seven-tenths of a second better than Tim Collett of Malone, who finished second in 1:56.23.
Freshman Ryan Deemer won the 1,000-yard freestyle, and sophomore Megan Schultz won the 100-yard backstroke.
The Eagle women will return to the water on Saturday (Jan.24) at home against the Hillsdale women. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
