Eagle Women Swimmers Sink Chargers

The Ashland University women's swim and dive team swam for the second time in as many days on Saturday (Jan. 24) as they took on the Hillsdale Chargers, and the Eagles earned a hard-fought 105-100 victory.

Freshman Grace Reichard had an outstanding showing, as she won three events. She took the crown in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.88 seconds, the 100-yard freestyle in 53.00 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.63 seconds.

Junior Hannah Mattar won the 200-yard individual medley for the second consecutive day. She turned in a time of 2:14.06. She bested the Chargers' Sarah Rinaldi by exactly one second.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Ashland sophomore Megan Schultz outlasted Hillsdale's Naofa Noll. Schultz recorded a time of 1:02.01. Noll finished second and touched in 1:04.32.

The Eagles now look forward to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, Feb. 11-14. The championships will be in Jennison, Michigan.
