For Ashland University's swimming program, the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships finished on Saturday (Feb. 14) the way they began on Wednesday (Feb. 11).
Junior Hannah Mattar earned her third conference title of the week on Saturday, earning a 2015 NCAA Division II nationals "B" cut in the women's 200 breaststroke finals with an effort of 2:17.20. After the Championships, Mattar was named the 2015 GLIAC women's Swimmer of the Year.
The GLIAC Championships were a showcase for Mattar, who won the 200-yard individual medley on Wednesday, was the winner of the 400-yard individual medley on Thursday (Feb. 12) and finished second in the 200 butterfly on Friday (Feb. 13).
Youth continued to be served for the Eagles on Saturday, as freshman Ryan Deemer earned a national "B" cut by finishing fourth in the men's 1,650 freestyle (16:04.13), and freshman Grace Reichard did the same by placing sixth in the 100 freestyle (52.07).
Deemer was named the 2015 GLIAC men's Freshman of the Year on Saturday night.
In the final team standings, the Ashland women placed fifth of 10 teams with 331 points, while the Eagle men were fifth of seven teams with 303 points.
Ashland will be at home against Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 21) in its last action prior to those who qualified heading to the NCAA Division II Championships, March 11-14 in Indianapolis, Ind.
