Hannah Mattar is fast - really fast.
In the first day of the 2015 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. on Wednesday (March 11), Mattar took to the water in the first of her four scheduled events, the 200-yard individual medley.
The Eagle junior came into the 200 IM finals seeded fourth after she swam a 2:02.19 in preliminaries. She then rattled off a 2:01.95 in the finals and placed sixth. That finish earned Mattar first-team All-American status.
Patricia Castro Ortega of Queens University (N.C.) finished first with a time of 1:58.60. That is an NCAA Division II record.
Mattar will return to the pool on Thursday, competing in the 400-yard individual medley. The preliminaries get underway at 10:30 a.m. Mattar also will compete in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard butterfly this week.
