Mattar Named First-Team Academic All-America

Hannah Mattar's 2014-15 season ended almost three months ago, but she's still piling up awards.

Mattar, a junior on Ashland University's women's swimming and diving team, earned first-team Capital One 2014-15 Division II Academic All-America At-Large honors on Wednesday (June 10). The women's At-Large program includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.

Mattar turned in one of AU's top individual efforts of the recently-completed school year, both in the pool and the classroom. She competed in four events at nationals, earning three All-American honors - fourth in the 200 breaststroke, fifth in the 400 individual medley and sixth in the 200 IM - and earning enough points by herself to have the AU women's team place in a tie for 21st nationally.

She also earned 52.5 Learfield Sports Division II Directors' Cup standings points for the Eagle athletic program, helping it to its best-ever finish (second) in the Directors' Cup.

Mattar won three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles, and was named the GLIAC Women's Swimmer of the Year. She also earned Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team honors in Division II, District 4, and a 2014-15 GLIAC Winter Commissioner's Award.

She owns a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average in Hospitality Management.
