Eagles' Day 1 Complete At Eastern Michigan Invite

Head swimming coach Derick Roe took his Ashland University Eagles back to his old stomping grounds in Ypsilanti, Mich., for the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Friday (Dec. 4).

Roe is a 2010 graduate of Eastern Michigan, where he holds the program record in the 50-yard freestyle.

After Day 1 of the EMU Invite, the Eagle men sit fourth out of five teams with 166 points. Eastern Michigan's men lead with 352 points. The Eagle women sit third in a four-team field with 216 points. Eastern Michigan also leads in the women's standings with 359 points.

Friday began well for the Eagles, with senior Hannah Mattar winning the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:16.70. Mattar also finished fifth in the 200 fly (2:06.63).

Sophomore Ryan Deemer earned bronze in the 1,650 free, touching in 16:14.32. Eagle junior Megan Schultz claimed fourth in the 200 back with a 2:08.05. Sophomore Chris Georgiadis placed fifth in the 200 fly, reaching in 1:52.92.

The Eagles will be back in the water for Day 2 of the Eastern Michigan Invite on Saturday, (Dec. 5), beginning at 10 a.m.
