Day 2 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday (Feb. 11) saw more Ashland University athletes reach the podium in Waterford Township, Mich.
Senior Hannah Mattar placed fourth in the women's 400-yard individual medley (4:30.57). Mattar already owns an NCAA Championships "B" cut time in the event (4:26.32), the ninth-quickest time in the country coming into the GLIAC Championships.
The Ashland women's 200 freestyle relay won bronze in a time of 1:36.45, achieving a new NCAA Championships "B" cut time. The swimming quartet was made up of senior Kaylyn Murphy, sophomore Grace Reichard, junior Megan Schultz and freshman Julia Grady.
The Ashland men's 200 free relay touched fourth in a combined time of 1:25.36 seconds. The relay was made up of senior Sergio Sanchis Peris, freshman Ben Keilholz, sophomore Joshua Nixon and junior John Scalli.
Sophomore Christopher Georgiadis placed 10th in the men's 400 IM. He clocked in in a time of 4:07.63.
The Eagle women maintained their sixth-place spot on Thursday with 144 team points. Wayne State is in the top spot with 428 points. The Eagle men are eighth after two days of competition with 114 points. Grand Valley State sits in first with 464 points.
The Eagles will return to the water for Day 3 of the GLIAC championships on Friday (Feb. 12) at Waterford Mott High School. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
