Mattar Joins Exclusive AU Club With Second Commissioner’s Award

Ashland University senior Hannah Mattar has made a career of duplicating strong efforts.

Mattar has done so once again, as she has earned a winter 2015-16 Commissioner's Award from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. She also earned a GLIAC Commissioner's Award as a junior in 2014-15.

Mattar becomes just the third Ashland student-athlete to earn two GLIAC Commissioner's Awards since the award was instituted beginning in the fall of 2007, joining Garrett Grey (track and field) and Nick Bellanco (football).

As the Ashland swimming program's lone representative at NCAA Division II nationals two years in a row, Mattar has single-handedly earned 88.5 Learfield Directors' Cup points for the Eagle athletic department. In 2015-16, she finished 10th at nationals in the 200-meter breaststroke, 12th in the 200 individual medley and 19th in the 400 IM.

At the 2016 GLIAC Championships, Mattar was fourth in the 400 IM, fifth in the 200 IM, seventh in both the 200 breaststroke and 200 medley relay and eighth in the 400 medley relay.

Mattar, vice-president of Ashland's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, is a three-time member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team. She sports a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average in Hospitality Management.
