AU Men Second, Women Third In Season Opener

Ashland University's men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up their first action of the 2016-17 season on Saturday (Oct. 1) at Messerly Natatorium, concluding a home quad meet with Findlay, Northern Michigan and Tiffin.

On the men's side, the Eagles finished second with 711.5 team points behind Northern Michigan (1,314). Findlay was third (709.5), followed by Tiffin (439). In the women's team standings, Ashland was third with 629.5 points, behind the Wildcats (1,066.5) and the Oilers (948). The Dragons were fourth (301).

Junior Ryan Deemer took third in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle (10:07.27), while freshman Charlie Sutton did the same in the men's 100 free (48.43).

Taking fourths were sophomore Erin Stanley in the women's 1,000 free (11:35.53), junior Grace Reichard in the women's 200 breaststroke (2:34.85), sophomore Daniel Callis in the men's 200 breaststroke (2:15.73), the women's 400 free relay of Reichard, sophomore Julia Grady, senior Megan Schultz and junior Zoe Scarpone (3:45.79) and the men's 400 free relay squad of Deemer, sophomore Ben Keilholz, junior Joshua Nixon and Sutton (3:19.42).

UP NEXT: Back at home on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. in a dual against Findlay.
