Ashland Men, Women Lose In Dual At Wayne State

The Ashland University men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost dual meets at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Wayne State on Saturday (Nov. 5).

The Eagle women lost, 122-70, and the men lost, 144-77. 

For the AU women, sophomore Erin Staley, junior Madison Olander and sophomore Elizabeth Palmer placed first, second and third, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:38.44, 5:48.41 and 6:05.55. Junior Grace Reichard, sophomore Sophie Brightman and sophomore Destiny Camp finished one, two and three in the 200 breaststroke, respectively at 2:28.89, 2:38.27 and 2:46.62, and the relay team of Palmer, junior Zoe Scarpone, and freshmen Rebecca Prexta and Alex Newcomer won the 200 free in 1:48.15. 

On the Ashland men's side, sophomores Daniel Callis and Matthew Bernsdorf were first and second in the 200 breaststroke, respectively, with times of 2:17.81 and 2:25.03, and freshmen Charles Sutton and Malcolm Doepke won the 200 free relay with senior John Scalli and junior Ryan Deemer.

UP NEXT: The Eagles will face Tiffin in two GLIAC dual meets on Nov. 18 and 19.
