Ashland Men, Women Have Strong Showings At Malone

In their last regular-season road meet of 2016-17, Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams fared well against Malone, Urbana and Hillsdale's women on Friday (Jan. 13) night in Canton, Ohio.

In the men's tri meet, the Eagles defeated both the host Pioneers (141-63) and Urbana (144-41), while in the women's quad, Ashland topped both Malone (148-82) and Urbana (162-46), and tied the Chargers (111-111).

Among the Eagles' 13 first-place showings, junior Christopher Georgiadis earned two individual titles in the men's 200-yard individual medley (1:58.73) and 500 freestyle (4:52.75). Sophomore Keegan Goeke won the men's 100 backstroke (54.79) and was part of the first-place men's 200 medley relay team (1:38.39), which also featured sophomore Daniel Callis, freshman Charles Sutton and sophomore Ben Keilholz.

The women's 200 medley relay team of senior Megan Schultz, junior Grace Reichard, junior Zoe Scarpone and sophomore Julia Grady won in 1:52.41, and Reichard (1:57.58 in the 200 free), Grady (25.12 in the 50 free) and Scarpone (1:01.34 in the 100 butterfly) each won individual events, as well.

The men's 200 free relay team of junior Joshua Nixon, senior John Scalli, junior Nicholas Noe and freshman Aaron Bradfield touched the finish line in 1:30.32, while individual victories were earned by sophomore Erin Staley in the women's 1,650 free (18:48.59), freshman Malcolm Doepke in the men's 1,650 free (16:38.02), Sutton in the men's 100 free (49.07) and freshman Maddy Cronin in women's one-meter diving (130.50 points).

UP NEXT: The 2016-17 home finale on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 1 p.m. against Saginaw Valley State and Hillsdale's women. It will be the Eagles' Senior Day at Messerly Natatorium.
