Eagles Take First In Three Events On Senior Day

Coming off road victories on Friday (Jan. 13), the Ashland University men's and women's swim teams lost meets at home on Saturday (Jan. 14). 

In a dual meet, the Eagle men lost to Saginaw Valley State, 142-63. The women, in a tri meet, lost to the Cardinals, 164.5-67.5, and Hillsdale, 123-88.

AU upperclassmen John Scalli and Megan Schultz were recognized throughout the competition as a part of the program's annual Senior Day festivities.

Scalli was a part of the Ashland men's lone first-place finish on the day. He, along with sophomores Ben Keilholz and Keegan Goeke, and freshman Charlie Sutton, won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:28.52.

Junior Grace Reichard was the only Eagle to win an individual event, placing first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.65.

The Ashland women's 200 freestyle team of Reichard, junior Zoe Scarpone, sophomore Julia Grady and freshman Rebecca Prexta also took first, finishing in 1:41.28. 

Among the four second-place finishes for the AU men were junior Ryan Deemer in the 200 freestyle (1:46.57), junior Christopher Georgiadis in the 400 individual medley (4:14.40), Goeke in the 200 backstroke (2:03.29) and Deemer again in the 500 freestyle (4:54.70). 

Reichard was also the only Eagle woman to earn second in an individual heat, touching the finish line in 2:26.66 in the 200 back.

UP NEXT: The Eagles have a few weeks before they will compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 8-11 in Saginaw, Mich.
