Junior Grace Reichard of the Ashland University women's swimming and diving team and freshman Malcolm Doepke of the men's team both placed in the top eight of individual events at Day 1 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 8) in Saginaw, Mich.
Reichard earned a bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle, reaching the finish in 23.61. Reichard's time is a "B" cut standard for women's Division II nationals. She is the first Eagle to earn a "B" cut this season.
Doepke finished seventh in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:37.57. Doepke's season-best mark before today was 10:15.79.
The men's 200 medley relay team of freshman Charles Sutton and sophomores Keegan Goeke, Daniel Callis and Ben Keilholz entered the day as the conference's No. 6 seed, but placed fourth out of seven teams in 1:33.36.
Reichard, along with sophomore Julia Grady, junior Zoe Scarpone and senior Megan Schultz, made up the women's 200 medley team. They came in as the eight seed but ended up seventh out of eight team, finishing in 1:48.13.
