On Wednesday (June 7) afternoon, Ashland University junior swimmer Grace Reichard was named a third-team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American, At-Large.

In garnering that honor, Reichard made some history for herself, the Eagle swimming and diving program and the AU athletic department as a whole.

It is Reichard's first Academic All-American honor, following being named CoSIDA Academic All-District in May. Through the 2017 spring semester, she sports a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average in Dietetics.

At the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Reichard earned a bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.61 seconds. That effort was a "B" cut standard for women's NCAA Division II nationals.

Reichard also won the 2017 GPA Award at Ashland's second-annual ASHPY Awards ceremony.

For the Ashland swimming and diving program, Reichard's Academic All-American honor is its ninth all-time, and its sixth since 2012.

And for the Eagle athletic department as a whole, Reichard becomes the seventh Academic All-American of the 2016-17 athletic year – tied for the most in a single athletic year in department history (2012-13).

The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
