The Ashland University men's and women's swimming & diving teams each earned wins over Tiffin in Friday's (Nov. 3) tri-meet that also featured at Messerly Natatorium. The Warriors defeated both the Eagles and Dragons in the meet.
The Eagles claimed wins in five events on the day, including taking the top two spots in the 200 freestyle relay on the men's and women's sides.
For the women, the top team in the 200 free relay consisted of senior Grace Reichard, junior Julia Grady, senior Zoe Scarpone and junior Elizabeth Palmer. That group came in with a time of 1:42.05. The second place team of senior Courtney Patterson, junior Erin Staley, senior Maddie Olander and freshman Maura Delaney touched the pad in 1:48.15
Junior Ben Keilholz, senior Josh Nixon, sophomore Grant Stahl and junior Keegan Goeke won the men's 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.62. Senior Nick Noe, sophomore Malcolm Doepke and seniors Ryan Deemer and Christopher Georgiadis were second in that event with a time of 1:32.64.
Junior Daniel Callis came in first place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.14. Junior Matthew Bernsdorf finished third in that same event with a time of 2:22.92 as AU took two of the top three spots.
Deemer finished in second place in the 1000 freestyle, coming in at 10:01.31, while Doepke finished third at 10:02.76.
Freshman Dylan Nasser (1:56.19) and sophomore Grant Stahl (2:02.57) took second and third place, respectively, in the 200 individual medley.
For the women, Reichard was the top finisher in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.45 seconds.
Junior Sophie Brightman finished first in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 2:44.67, while junior Destiny Camp also placed in the top three with a time of 2:48.96.
Sophomore Becca Prexta placed second in the 200 backstroke, touching the pad in 2:18.38.
The Eagles will now have little time to rest as they hit the road on Saturday (Nov. 4) to meet Tiffin for the second straight day. The dual is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
