AU Men, Women Fifth After Two Days at Kenyon

The Ashland University men's and women's swimming teams were in action for the second straight day at the Total Performance Sports Camps Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio on Friday (Dec. 1).

Both teams sit in fifth place at the six-team invitational, which also features Ohio State, Davidson, Susquehenna, Carnegie Mellon and host Kenyon.

The top finish on the day for Ashland came in the women's 200 freestyle relay, which placed ninth overall with a time of 1:39.34. That team consisted of junior Julia Grady, senior Grace Reichard, junior Sophie Brightman and senior Zoe Scarpone.

The AU women were 17th in the other relay of the day – the 400 medley. Senior Courtney Patterson, Reichard, Scarpone and Grady clocked in at 4:14.90.

In individuals, Reichard just missed an NCAA Division II "B" cut with a time of 24.06 seconds in the 50 freestyle. The 'B' standard is 24.05 seconds. She placed 15th in the event. Reichard was also 20th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.33.

Scarpone finished 16th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:20.95 with senior Michaela Teague coming in 17th with a time of 2:31.24.

Senior Maddie Olander swam the 400 individual medley in a time of 5:03.09 and placed 19th overall.

Brightman was 20th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.20 and junior Destiny Camp came in at 1:13.55 and in 21st place. Senior Courtney Patterson swam the 100 backstroke in 1:06.57.

The top men's finish also came in the 200 freestyle relay as junior Keegan Goeke, senior Nick Noe, junior Ben Keilholz and senior Josh Nixon were 10th with a time of 1:27.38.

The crew of freshman Dylan Nasser, junior Daniel Callis and seniors Christopher Georgiadis and Josh Nixon placed 12th in the 400 medley relay, touching the pad in 3:30.74.

The top individual finish on the men's side came from Callis, who placed 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.57 seconds. Junior Matthew Bernsdorf was 20th in the eventh with a time of 1:01.78.

Keilholz was 12th in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 21.67 seconds.

Nasser finished 13th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:06.22. He was also 16th in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:43.66.

Georgiadis swam the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:55.96 to come in 15th place. Goeke was 20th in the 100 backstroke, coming in at 55.07 seconds.

The Eagles will conclude their three-day trip to the TPSC Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 2) in Gambier.
