Walthall Named Swimming & Diving Assistant Coach

Ashland University swimming & diving head coach Ron Allen recently announced the hiring of Kyle Walthall to his staff as an assistant coach.

Walthall, a 2016 graduate of York College of Pennsylvania, was the 2016 NCAA Division III national champion in the 100 breaststroke and competed in the Olympic trials in that event. He is a six-time NCAA All-American (2014-16) and was the Capital Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year in 2014 and 2016 and the Rookie of the Year in 2013.

"We are very pleased to have Kyle on board with our swimming & diving program," Allen said. "Kyle brings a wealth of knowledge in training and recruiting which will help our program grow and improve rapidly. His experience in both Division III and Division II will be very beneficial to both our current athletes and those coming in soon."

Walthall came to AU after serving as the assistant coach at NCAA Division II Barton (N.C.) College since the fall of 2016. Walthall was instrumental in the launch of the swimming & diving program at Barton where he assisted with planning practices and meetings, developing and implementing training programs, including velocity-based training programs, recruiting, and the purchasing of equipment and supplies.

In the program's first season, Walthall helped the men's and women's teams achieve eight top-24, three top-16 and two top-8 finishes at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.

"I am very excited to become a member of the Ashland family," Walthall said. "This program has a lot of potential with Ron at the helm, and I am looking forward to working with him to make this program the best that it can be."

Walthall also served as an assistant coach with Wilson Barracudas Swim Team in Wilson, N.C. while at Barton. He developed and implemented swim programs for youth swimmiers and also assisted in fundraising efforts.

Walthall has also served as a Nike Swimming Camp counselor in the summers of 2016 and 2017. He was the head lifeguard and head swim coach at the Country Club of New York in 2015 and served as a communications assistant and coaching assistant at York College of Pennsylvania from 2012-14.

Walthall earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management from York with a focus in athletic administration.
