Eagles Sweep Dragons in Sunday Meet

The Ashland University swimming & diving teams returned to the Messerly Natatorium on Sunday (Jan. 7) afternoon, winning 14 events in a dual meet against visiting Tiffin.

The AU women toppled the Dragons, 113-49, while the men were winners by a 110-70 count.

For the women, senior Grace Reichard and junior Erin Staley were victorious in two individual events each. Reichard claimed the top prize in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.60 seconds and clocked in in 54.09 seconds in the 100 freestyle.

Staley was first to touch in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.57 and the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 5:27.54.

Senior Maddie Olander was the top finisher in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:28.33, while sophomore Maddy Cronin scored 165.60 points in the 3-meter dive.

The 200 medley relay team of senior Courtney Patterson, freshman Jessica Zaper and juniors Julia Grady and Sophie Brightman finished in 1:55.96 to beat the Dragons.

On the men's side, senior Ryan Deemer won two individual races. He was the first-place finisher in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.83 and was fastest in the 500 freestyle at 4:52.14.

Senior Christopher Georgiadis swam the 1000 freestyle in 10:14.56 to win the heat. Senior Keegan Goeke won the 50 freestyle in 22.26 seconds.

In the 200 individual medley, freshman Dylan Nasser had the fastest time, clocking in at 1:59.00. Senior Josh Nixon led the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.60 seconds.

The Eagles also won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.91. That team consisted of Goeke, sophomore Daniel Callis, sophomore Grant Stahl and junior Ben Keilholz.

The Eagles will compete in their final home event of the season next Saturday (Jan. 13) when they welcome Malone and Urbana to Messerly Natatorium at 1 p.m.
