Three Eagles Hit Podium, NCAA "B" Cuts on Day 1 at GLIACs

RESULTS - DAY 1

The Ashland University swimming & diving teams are off to a strong start at the GLIAC Championships after Day 1 of competition at Jenison High School Aquatics Center on Wednesday (Feb. 14).

The AU men's squad sits in fourth place with 78.5 points while the women are in fifth place at 60 points.

The Eagles had three swimmers achieve an NCAA "B" cut on Wednesday, already surpassing the number of provisional marks from last season.

Senior Grace Reichard placed highest for the Eagles, coming in fourth place and earning 15 points in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.66 seconds, which qualified for the "B" standard.

Freshman Dylan Nasser tied for sixth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.47 to hit the NCAA's "B" cut mark.

Sophomore Malcolm Doepke reached the "B" cut in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:33.81. He finished seventh in the event.

The 200 medley relay team of freshman Jessica Zaper, Reichard, senior Zoe Scarpone and junior Julia Grady clocked in at 1:47.04 to finish in fifth place.

In the men's 200 medley relay, the Eagles also finished fifth with a time of 1:32.99. That team consisted of junior Keegan Goeke, junior Daniel Callis, senior Christopher Georgiadis and senior Josh Nixon.

Other scorers on the women's side included junior Erin Staley (1000 freestyle, 13th), Scarpone (200 IM, 12th), Grady (50 freestyle, 12th) and Zaper (50 freestyle, 14th).

For the men, other scorers included senior Ryan Deemer (1000 freestyle, 12th), junior Chris Martucci (1000 freestyle, 14th), Georgiadis (200 IM, 14th), Callis (200 IM, 16th), junior Ben Keilholz (50 freestyle, 9th) and Goeke (50 freestyle, 12th).

The GLIAC Championships continue on Thursday (Feb. 15) with the 200 freestyle relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay.
