St. Cloud State Joins GLIAC Men's Swimming & Diving As Affiliate Members

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) is excited to welcome St. Cloud State University as affiliate members in men's swimming and diving. The Huskies will start competing in the GLIAC beginning with the 2018-19 season and at the 2019 GLIAC Championships scheduled for February 20-23, 2019 at Cleveland State University.

"The GLIAC is extremely excited to have St. Cloud State join the league as affiliate members in men's swimming and diving," stated Kris Dunbar, GLIAC Commissioner. "We are hopeful this will encourage schools throughout the region to start programs and give more opportunities to student-athletes."

St. Cloud State, located in St. Cloud, Minn., will continue to compete as full members in all other NCAA Division II sports as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). St. Cloud State's affiliate membership application was recently approved by the GLIAC Council of Presidents.

"On behalf of St. Cloud State University, we would like to thank the GLIAC – its Council of Presidents, head coaches, and administration – for the opportunity to join as an affiliate member in men's swimming and diving. Our men's swimming and diving program has a strong history of student-athlete development and success, and our student-athletes benefit from access to a culminating championship as they work toward their performance goals," said Heather Weems, St. Cloud State Director of Athletics. "This membership brings that championship experience closer to home and we look forward to competing against the quality schools that comprise the GLIAC."

The Huskies will become the sixth member of GLIAC Men's Swimming & Diving joining Ashland, Grand Valley State, Northern Michigan, Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State.

"We are very excited to be joining the GLIAC as an affiliate member in men's swimming and diving," commented St. Cloud State head coach Jeff Hegle. "The GLIAC has an outstanding tradition of being one of the premier conferences in the county competitively and academically. I have the utmost respect for the coaches in GLIAC and look forward to building a great relationship with them. We are very excited to start the 2018-2019 season as a member of the GLIAC."
