Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to John Carroll on Friday (Jan. 25) night.
The Eagle women tied in the meet, 115-115, while the AU men lost, 160-76. AU swimmers and divers were able to earn wins in 13 of 26 events.
In diving, sophomore Madeline Cronin swept both women's events, winning with a finals score of 184.15 in the 1-meter dive, and 220.75 in the 3-meter dive.
On the women's side in swimming action for the Eagles, there were nine event wins.
Sophomore Tara Stevens won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:58.08, freshman Abigail Ellsworth finished in on top in the 200 free with a 2:00.93 finish, senior Julia Grady won the 50 free in 25.51, sophomore Anne Evans won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.10, Ellsworth won the 100 free with a 56.07 finals time, freshman Michaela Godfrey took the 200 backstroke finishing in 2:12.36, and junior Erin Staley earned the top spot in the 500 free with a 5:27.15 finish.
The men won four events, two of them by freshman Franci Aleksi, who kept up his dominant run, sweeping both distance events. Aleksi won the 100 free in 9:40.45, and the 500 free with a 4:46.10 finish.
Freshman Matt Filsinger earned a win for the Eagles in the 200 medley with a 2:00.36 finish, and senior Keegan Goeke rounded out the winning on the men's side with a top finish in the 100 free, finishing in 48.56.
The Eagles also had a slate of swimmers finish in second place on both the men's and women's side.
In women's action, second-place finishers were – the 400-yard medley relay team comprised of Godfrey, Grady, Ellsworth and senior Sophie Brightman, in a 4:12.94 finish, Godfrey in the 1,000 free with a 11:20.93 finish, Staley in the 200 free with a 2:02.16 finish, freshman Morgan Gardner in the 200 fly with a time of 2:16.79, and Stevens in the 200 back with a 2:14.11 finish.
On the men's side, runner-up placements were turned in by the 400 medley relay team made up of Goeke, Filsinger, senior Daniel Callis, and freshman Panos Nikakis with a time of 3:40.01, senior Lucas Oliveira in the 200 free at 1:49.44, senior Matthew Bernsdorf in the 200 medley finishing in 2:06.61, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Pangiotis, senior Ben Keilholz, freshman Jacob Keilholz and Goeke with a 3:18.04 finish.
The Eagles have wrapped up competition until Feb. 20, when they begin the first of four days in Cleveland, Ohio, for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
