Aleksi Earns First GLIAC Swimmer of Week Award

Freshman Franci Aleksi won the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference award of the year for Ashland University's men's swimming and diving team on Wednesday (Jan. 30) morning.

The GLIAC announced on Wednesday that Aleksi had earned Week 12 GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors. The award was the first of Aleksi's career. He is the first men's swimmer to win the GLIAC Swimmer of the Week award since Ryan Deemer on Jan. 30, 2018.

Aleksi won both events he participated in at John Carroll on Friday (Jan. 25). In the men's 1,000-yard freestyle, he took the top spot with a 9:40.45 finish. He was five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Aleksi swept the distance events, winning the 500 free as well with a time of 4:46.10.

Aleski has not lost in a distance event since Dec. 1, winning his last 10 races.

The next time the Eagles swim will be on Feb. 20 at Day 1 of the GLIAC Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
