Four Eagles from Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams made the trip to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America open water championship on Saturday (Sept. 14).
The event was a 5k swim in a three-lap open-water setting.
Ashland's highest placings came on the men's side. Sophomore Franci Aleksi finished in ninth place with a time of 1:02:41.5. His sophomore counterpart, Matt Filsinger, was not far behind, finishing in 16th place (1:03:58.4).
The Eagles also had two women competing on Saturday morning, as well. Junior Tara Stevens finished in 1:15:00, 8 which placed her 67th overall for women, and freshman Sydney Kermath finished just behind her in 68th with a time of 1:15:03.2.
Ashland will open its season on Sept. 28 at the Cleveland State Relay Meet in Cleveland, Ohio.
