Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost to Wayne State on Friday (Nov. 8) night.
Ashland's women were closer to beating the Warriors, a 595-545 final, while Wayne State's men pulled away for a 693.5-513.5 win.
Junior Tara Stevens won the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing in 18:14.84, the only winner on the night for the Eagles in women's competition. Stevens was also second in the 500 free (5:18.43).
A few of Ashland's women nearly nabbed the top spot in their event.
The Eagles finished second in the women's 200 medley. Freshman Sydney Kermath, freshman Makayla Tarkenton, junior Maura Delaney, and junior Jessica Zaper finished in 1:52.47. Sophomore Abigail Ellsworth finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.19. Zaper was second in the 100 free, finishing in 54.93. Tarkenton was the last of the Eagles to finishing in the second-place spot, finishing in 1:09.15 in the 100 breaststroke.
In the women's one-meter diving, freshman Madison Jarrett was second, scoring 200.77, and she was also second in the three-meter dive, 192.90.
Sophomore Franci Aleksi was able to do some winning on the men's side. Aleksi won the 1,650 free with a time of 16:22.59. Freshman Ben Hongell won the 100-yard free for Ashland (47.96) and finished second in the 200 free (1:47.33). Sophomore Matt Filsinger won the 500 free in 4:43.19 and finished second in the 1,650 free (16:45.91). Freshman Amar Sapcanin closed out the winning for Ashland with a 58.61 finishing in the 100 breaststroke.
In men's diving, freshman Isaac Osterfeld was second in the one-meter (220.35).
Ashland will compete next at home on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 1 p.m. against Davenport.
