Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams got off to a hot start at the Oberlin Invitational on Friday (Nov. 22).
The Eagles won three of six events in total - two on the women's side and one on the men's.
Sophomore Michaela Godfrey, freshman Makayla Tarkenton, junior Maura Delaney, and junior Jessica Zaper won the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:48.48 finish.
Junior Tara Stevens took the top spot in the 1,650 freestyle (17:58.65), the sixth-best time in AU history in the event, ahead of her teammate, freshman Sydney Kermath, in second place (18:05.24).
In men's action, sophomore Franci Aleksi won the 1,650 free in 16:14.62, ahead of his teammate, sophomore Matt Filsinger, who finished in third (16:35.00). Aleksi, freshman Ben Hongell, sophomore Matt Filsinger, and sophomore Panos Nikakis took second in the men's 800 free relay (7:02.29).
The Eagles will compete in the second day at the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 23), with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m.
