Ashland University senior Garrett Grey (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) has been named to the 2013 Capital One NCAA Division II Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-America Team. Grey is a first team selection.

This is the first time Grey has been named an Academic All-American. He is the sixth AU student-athlete to receive Capital One First Team honors this year and he's the seventh student-athlete in 2012-13 to be named an Academic All-American.

The Capital One team is selected by sports information directors from around the country. Grey advanced to the national ballot after being named first team all-district.

Grey is a sports management major with a 3.59 grade point average. This spring, he won a national championship in the hammer (231-3). Grey finished over 13 feet ahead of the next closest competitor. The senior ended his career as a six-time All-American. Grey placed third in the weight throw at this year's indoor championships. He helped the AU men finish as the national runner-up both indoors and outdoors.

Grey is a member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team. A year ago, he received a GLIAC Commissioner's Award.

In addition to Grey, AU's other 2012-13 Capital One First Team Academic All-Americans are Donnie Dottei (football), Kari Daugherty (women's basketball), Daiva Gerbec (women's basketball), Julie Widmann (swimming/women's at large) and Holly James (golf/women's at large). Brittany Snider (volleyball) was a Capital One Third Team Academic All-American.
