Relays Hit Qualifying Marks

The Ashland University track and field teams competed at Hillsdale and Akron on Saturday (Feb. 8). The Eagles experienced success at both venues.

At Hillsdale, the men's distance relay finished first in 9:55.79. That time is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA national meet. That quartet consisted of Drew Windle, Jacob Cook, Joshua Davis and Brian Baum.

The women's distance medley was third at Hillsdale in 11:59.31. That is a provisional qualification. Anna Mion, Abby Strock, Jackie Genetin and Delainey Phelps made up that relay.

The Eagles had a full contingent of athletes at Akron. This meet was hosted by the University of Akron and had Gold and Blue Divisions.

For the women, Macy Caldwell was third (8.56) in the Gold Division of the 60 hurdles. Jennifer Foster was third (5-8) in the Gold Division high jump. Jennifer Bjelac was third (18-9.25) in the Gold Division long jump.

In the women's Blue Division, Shaunisha Winter finished first (37-6.50) in the triple jump. Austin Borton was the runner-up (2:18.97) in the 800. In the 5000, Marissa Sinko was second (19:06.00) and Linda Morales was third (19:10.60). Megan Tomei was second (44-8.75) in the weight throw.

For the men in the Gold Division, Donald Duke was second (60-3.00) in the shot put. Jason Zahn was second (169-3) in the discus. In the weight throw, AU strength and conditioning coach A.G. Kruger was first (78-9.00). James Clay Harris was second (61-5.5) and Mack Taylor was third (60-10).

Jordan Hoppel was third (22.24) in the 200 and Elijha Owens was third in the 60 hurdles (8.01).

In the Blue Division, Thomas Meynes was the runner-up in the mile (4:26.47) and Aubrey Jordan was third (4:29.15). William Cutler led the pack in the 5000 (15:30.43) and Jonathan Albaugh was second (15:31.90).

Grant Hay was second (14-9.50) in the pole vault and Elijah Talk was second in the shot put (52-8.0). Clayton Jury had the top mark (154-3) in the discus.
