Windle Named Nation's Best For The Week

Ashland University's Drew Windle is this week's USTFCCCA NCAA Divison II men's national track and field athlete of the week. The organization made the announcement today.

Last weekend at Grand Valley State's Big Meet, Windle won the 800 meters in 1:46.52. That's the fastest indoor time ever recorded by a Division II athlete, regardless of track size. He surpassed by almost a full second the previous fastest conditions mark of 1:47.34 set by Salasi Lumax of Southern Connecticut in 2012.

Including outdoor performances, Windle is now the ninth fastest performer in comprehensive indoor and outdoor history for NCAA Division II.  His time was fast enough to temporarily place him on top of the 2014 descending order list before he was dropped to second among all collegians on Saturday.

Windle also helped the AU 4X4  run 3:13.78 at GVSU. That's the best time in the nation (NCAA Division II) and an automatic qualifier for nationals.

Windle is the defending national champion in the 800.
