Another weekend, another win. That's the way it's been for Drew Windle since he joined the AU track and field program three years ago.
This weekend (Apr. 18-19) Windle ran at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Track Classic. That's a huge stage and this event is loaded with exceptional Division I athletes from around the country. Those kind of venues don't seem to affect Windle much. At OSU, he led the field in the 1500 meters. His winning time was 3:44.92.
Windle's teammate, Brian Baum, also had a strong race, placing fifth (3:47.79).
Ashland strength and conditioning coach A.G. Kruger was first in the hammer throw. He won the event with a mark of 248-11. Former AU thrower Kibwe Johnson was the runnerup (240-11).
Elijha Owens made his presence felt in three events. Owens was third in the 400 hurdles (52.07) and fifth in the 110 hurdles (14.31). He was also on the 4X1 relay that was sixth (41.37). He was joined in that race by Cory Lamar, Brandon Freeman and Jacob Cook.
Donald Duke was sixth in the shot put (59-7).
For the AU women, Macy Caldwell was third (13.68) in the 100 hurdles.
In the hammer throw, Cynthia Watt was the runner-up (203-11) and Jessica Bridenthal was third (192-3). Kim Habegger finished seventh (185-00).
Bridenthal was sixth (48-11) in the shot put and Jamie Sindelar was seventh (48-5.25).
Delainey Phelps was eighth (17:38.51) in the 5000.
AU fans can watch the Eagles at home next Friday and Saturday (Apr. 25-26) as the AU Alumni Invitational returns to campus.
