Ashland, Ohio -- Alan Dunson is back at his alma mater in his first season as AU's assistant track and field coach.
Dunson displayed a remarkable collegiate athletic career competing in both football and track for the Eagles. He was a wide receiver and special teams standout on the football team that produced AU's first postseason football victory in the 2008 season. Dunson was awarded the D2football.com national special teams player of the week in 2010. He is Ashland's career leader in blocked kicks (eight) and single-season record holder for blocked kicks (three). Dunson also thrived as a kickoff returner.
Dunson played a key role in the men's track team's three consecutive GLIAC championships from 2008-2010. His accolades include the school record in the 110-meter high hurdles. He was named first team all-conference four times and was a seven-time NCAA qualifier. Dunson finished his career ranked in the top 10 in five events at Ashland.
Before his return to Ashland, Dunson was a mathematics teacher at Bluffton High School in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Dunson was heavily involved in coaching while at Bluffton. He was a wide receivers coach for the football program. In his two seasons coaching, he helped the Bobcats to a 26-2 record and a finish as the state runner-up. Dunson also had three wide receivers under his tutelage go on to play collegiate football.
Dunson was also the head track coach at Bluffton. He worked with both the men's and women's athletes at the school. He wrote and directed workouts for sprints, hurdles, and relays. In his time as the coach, his athletes set 10 school records and he had two state champions.
Dunson is originally from Columbus, Ohio.
